Summary
On 28 July 2006 Naveed Afzal Haq forced a teenage girl at gunpoint to open the security door of the Jewish Federation of Greater Seattle, went to the second-floor offices, and opened fire. He killed Pamela Waechter as she fled down a stairwell and wounded five other employees. Witnesses testified that he railed against Jews and U.S.-Israeli policies. A King County jury convicted him in December 2009 of aggravated first-degree murder, five counts of attempted first-degree murder, unlawful imprisonment, and malicious harassment, Washington's hate-crime statute. A King County Superior Court judge later sentenced him to life in prison without release.
